May 19, 1945 - Noon - Sighted Australia. Passing through the Great Barrier Reef. Evening - Passed into the outer harbor of Cairns and anchored. We will have to wait until morning to pass through the channel into the inner harbor. You can see the town lying in the low land around the harbor surrounded by hills. It looks pretty nive from way out here.

May 4, 1945 - Noon - Had captains mast and he broke us one rate for absent over leave without proper authority. He had to do this because he had turned us in as missing and had caused everyone a lot of trouble trying to find us and everything and the flag ship wanted us to have a summary court martial. We had permission from the communication officer but he wasn’t the proper authority to give permission. He says we will get our rates back real soon and that it won’t go on out records. I was really proud to be back rate or no rate.
Afternoon - Got underway with 8 other LSTs for Cairns Australia.
