June 17, 1944 - Sat-Noon-Leaving New Orleans and the Mississippi behind and heading for a long journey to the Southwest Pacific. The Mississippi sure is muddy now. All the land along this lower part of it is level and just the levee keeps the water out. This is a pretty day to be starting on a voyage with the sun shining and everything. –Sat-Evening-Sighted the Gulf. It sure is a pretty sight with the pretty green water along the shore line and the deep blue on out in the ocean.

June 10-16, 1944 - Went on liberty in New Orleans about three times. Went to the Pendlington Shipyards and got an LCT on the top deck. Went in drydock and got our screws that we used coming down the river taken off and new screws put on-the drydock was in front of a French carrier.

June 9, 1944 - Arrived in New Orleans

June 8, 1944 - Left for New Orleans

May 20, 1944 - Left New Orleans for St. Andrews Bay, Panama City, Fla.

May 16-19, 1944 - Messed around at New Orleans and two or three miles up and down the river from New Orleans and Algiers getting the ship fit for sea. Put up mast and so forth. Rene got sick and had to be transferred.

May 15, 1944 - Arrived in Algiers just across the river from New Orleans. It is a nice looking place even if we are tied up next to the Navy barracks.
